PhysX

Wouldn’t you just love it if a new FPS (first person shooter) came out and actually allowed you to blow up the scenery, firing an RPG at a building and the shrapnel shredding your enemies? Well if you do, keep waiting because I’ve still not heard of one.

However, AGEIA will soon be releasing their PPU (Physics Processing Unit) cards which will effectively act as a separate processor solely for the in game physics, which apart from vastly improving in game physics, will also take the strain of physics processing from the CPU.

Having a separate processor and memory will obviously make for much more realistic and in depth physics, but the card will only be supported by certain games. There are 20 compatible titles announced for 2006 such as ‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter’, with more arriving in 2007. (Click here to see the full list of compatible titles)

Google Gulp

Quench your thirst for knowledge.

At Google our mission is to organize the world's information and make it useful and accessible to our users. But any piece of information's usefulness derives, to a depressing degree, from the cognitive ability of the user who's using it. That's why we're pleased to announce Google Gulp (BETA)™ with Auto-Drink™ (LIMITED RELEASE), a line of "smart drinks" designed to maximize your surfing efficiency by making you more intelligent, and less thirsty.

Nokia N Series

The release of the Nokia n Series is finally here, after being delayed from the fourth quarter of 2005 due to some errors with the OS. The n series is less of a fashionable phone and more practical, and heavily laden with features for the gadget freak in all of us. Upon release the n series will consist of the N70, N90 and the N91, with more on the way. All are equipped with a 2 megapixel camera with video capture ability, high resolution screens, FM radio and 3G connectivity along with many other next gen features. The entire N series will be targeted more perhaps towards the more avid phone geeks, with price tags starting £300 for the N70, but it is available free on some contract deals, although at that price you'd expect plenty of memory, but the N70 fails to impress with only 22Mb, the internal usable memory in the N70 seems a little small, even though there is an MMC slot for expanding the memory.

The N90 is where things really start hotting up. Its design is reminiscent of the Nokia 6260, but the camera is now a rather unsightly block on the top which has limited independent movement from the rest of the phone, however this does provide for much improved photography along with the Carl Zeiss 'glass' lens, which is considered one of the best. The N90 has two screens, a small cover display (128 x 128 pixels) and the 2.1 inch active matrix 262,144 colour main display (352 x 416 pixels). This is the biggest n series phone, beaten only by the N92. Like the N70 this phone seems to have much too little memory, with only 27MB but it comes with a 64MB MMC card to expand on the meagre internal memory.

It seems the N91 is primarily geared up for music, with a massive 4GB hard drive built in which can hold approximately 3000 songs. It has a standard 3.5mm stereo jack for headphones or speakers and can easily transfer songs to and from computer. With a battery life of approximately 12.5 hours in player mode the N91 is the perfect portable jukebox. The N91 also comes with Wi-Fi for fast wireless data transfers with a computer, as well as Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Encased in stainless steel with an extra 30MB memory for applications and functions the N91 is definitely an impressive piece of kit, and a price tag to match at £600 sim free, and approximately £200 on contract.

I will soon be upgrading from my Samsung D500, and when I do I plan to grab myself one of these beauties, and if that is the case I'll give you all a proper review.

Meet the Greatest GPU of All Time

It is finally time for us all to pay tribute to the greatest GPU ever created, The ATi X600Pro manufactured by Gigabyte. Using the latest PCI-Express interface, and loaded with 128MB DDR memory at 128bit and a massive 4 EXTREME pixel pipelines this remains the greatest card ever.

Confused?

You should be.

Up until recently the X600 was my GPU, a fact which Fenton used at every opportunity as a means to mock me. It has been the centre of much ridicule and became the greatest GPU because of it.

After nearly 2 years of service my X600 finally retired it's position to the far superior Leadtek nVidia 7800GT Extreme, out benchmarking Fenton's nVidia 6600 in every way possible, especially as he is still stuck on the rather outdated AGP4x interface.

Though he mocked it so, the X600 still managed to maintain a decent framerate on every game with acceptable graphical settings
