PhysX

Wouldn’t you just love it if a new FPS (first person shooter) came out and actually allowed you to blow up the scenery, firing an RPG at a building and the shrapnel shredding your enemies? Well if you do, keep waiting because I’ve still not heard of one.

However, AGEIA will soon be releasing their PPU (Physics Processing Unit) cards which will effectively act as a separate processor solely for the in game physics, which apart from vastly improving in game physics, will also take the strain of physics processing from the CPU.

Having a separate processor and memory will obviously make for much more realistic and in depth physics, but the card will only be supported by certain games. There are 20 compatible titles announced for 2006 such as ‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter’, with more arriving in 2007. (Click here to see the full list of compatible titles)

When all games start using it and using it PROPERLY it'll be fantastic. Proper explosion, rubble causing damage and STAYING.

I'm not happy abotu the price though, so hopefully it'll fall slightly. Doubt it though
